?Like the oracle at Delphi, people came far and wide seeking the latest Platinum techniques from the Director of Technical Education for Platinum Guild International USA (PGI-USA), Jurgen Maerz. PGI-USA's Technical Training Tour, which launched on April 10th at the Texas JA Convention, included partnerships with various industry organizations, conventions, trade shows and educational institutions generating a record-breaking attendance of 750 bench jewelers! These partnerships included a first-time collaborative effort with Bench Media's Show Me How seminars.
Among the Show Me How Seminars four stops, Cincinnati drew the largest crowd of bench jewelers. More surprisingly, however, was the attendance in Houston -a stop almost canceled due to Hurricane Katrina's devastation- which could not detour five local bench jewelers from making their way to hear Maerz's expert advice on Platinum bench techniques including: How to size a Platinum ring, best alloy practices, polishing, fabrication and porosity. The Show Me How seminars also made stops in San Francisco and Orlando.
Maerz's Platinum Alloy Features and Benefits presentation drew an audience of over 100 bench students and faculty at the Texas Institute of Jewelry Technology in Paris, Texas. "Mr. Maerz's presentation was very inspiring to our students and faculty. The presentation was perfectly balanced between technical tips, elements of design and information of special interest to our horology students," said Ulla Raus, Division Chair for the Texas Institute of Jewelry Technology. The presentation also drew a crowd of 136 bench jewelers at this year's Santa Fe Symposium, as well as an audience of 58 bench jewelers at Atlanta's SJTA show.
"This year's technical tour proved to be quite necessary. In every venue, the type of technical questions from the attendees showed a continuing need for information. The trainings proved to be a must for bench jewelers and we plan to continue them in 2006 and beyond," says Maerz.
PGI-USA Technical Tour will rejoin the Show Me How seminars in 2006.

Platinum is prized for its Pure, Rare and Eternal qualities:
: Platinum's high level of purity (generally 90%-95% pure) endows it with both a natural white luster, allowing the true radiance of a diamond or gemstone to shine; and hypoallergenic qualities that prove ideal for sensitive skin.
Only the purest platinum jewelry will bear a stamp reading "PLATINUM," "PLAT," "Pt 950," or "Pt 900," signifying the jewelry is 90% to 95% pure platinum.
: Platinum is 30 times more rare than gold.
: Platinum will hold a diamond or gemstone securely, now and for always.
