The Precious Platinum Trends of JCK

Las Vegas, NV (June 2005) -
The JCK Las Vegas show highlighted many trends in new  Platinum jewelry building upon the foundation seen at the 2005 BaselWorld Fair.  People came from all over the globe to preview the trends that will be prevalent on runways and in magazines this fall.  With the popular use of Platinum in jewelry design this year, a broad spectrum of exciting sherbet color is prominent, including the use of calming blues and greens that remind us of nature.  The delicate look of floral motifs is ladylike and elegant, as well as Platinum jewelry that is vintage inspired.  Platinum stacking rings and bracelets allow customized style statements, and multiple long Platinum chains layer, for either classic or bohemian looks.  Platinum jewelry for men is becoming a category to watch.  Designs for men continue to expand, ranging from Platinum watches to Platinum rings, chain necklaces, and bracelets.  Another jewelry trend at JCK Las Vegas, says that less is more, with clean, sleek lines, giving a modern look to various engagement rings and wedding bands.

True Colors

Rich and vibrant, or cool and crisp, designers are not shying away from the use of colored diamonds and gemstones to pair with Platinum, the white hot metal of choice for many designers.  Its natural white luster doesn't take away from the rich color of the gemstone, allowing the lavish hues to shine on their own.  Platinum settings with canary yellow and pink diamonds are popular for engagement rings, as seen in designs from Jack Kelege.  Lovely lavender emerald cut diamonds, accented with pink diamonds, in a Platinum ring by Marc Lazar, allow modern girls a chance to stand out.  Alan Friedman's "Freefall" jewelry collection featured Platinum teardrop pendants and earrings set with natural pink, yellow, and white diamonds.  Gumuchian Fils showed off a rainbow of color with hot pink sapphires, blue sapphires and green peridots, adorning Platinum and diamond
bracelets, rings, necklaces and drop earrings.  Narrow Platinum and gemstone wedding bands stacked together, allow for splashes of color, and can be worn alternatively as a right hand ring, like the dark blue sapphire and diamond bands by Kirk Kara and Precision Set.

Back to Nature

Platinum mixed with crisp shades of blue and green gemstones, reflect the pure qualities of water and elements of nature.  The trend for turquoise continues, as it sizzles in Platinum and diamonds hoops and drop earrings from Erica Courtney.  Green beryl, also a favorite for Erica Courtney's designs, whose Platinum and green beryl ring is an ideal piece, from daytime to the Red carpet.  Platinum's natural white luster is the perfect setting for the beautiful kite aquamarine and diamond "Haute Joaillerie" pendant, by Hammerman Bros.  Floral motifs dominated this year, daisies among the most popular, adding a bit of casual fun to designs inspired by nature.  Jack Kelege offered a Platinum necklace with French enamel flowers, and Peter Storm featured Platinum necklaces, rings and barrettes with pink or blue sapphire daisy detail.  Mimi So revealed a unique Platinum and diamond floral design , called the "Anzia 7 Floral Scallop" necklace, with matching Platinum and diamond earrings and bracelet.

Ladylike Elegance

Reminiscent of Victorian elegance, vintage delicacy continues, with modern accents such as in the bridal collections at Kirk Kara, that featured intricate micro pave set diamonds.  Also, Platinum rings with delicate detail and hand engraved bands at Diana Classic further showcased the trend.  Longer pendants prevail with diamond or gemstone pave detail, such as a Platinum, green peridot, and diamond pendant with long diamond set chain from Kwiat, looking elegantly chic.

Stacking it Up

Designers showcased the trend of thin Platinum bands, with various diamonds and gemstones, meant to be stacked to express individual style.  The "Vice Versa" ring trios by Jeannette Fossas: Platinum and pave set diamond rings in asymmetrical shapes, and Jeff Cooper's platinum and diamond bands, and brand new Platinum bangle bracelets with diamond detail, are ideal for stacking.  Long layered necklaces remain popular like Renaissance Platinum's diamond bezel chains in multiple lengths, and create an essence of Bohemian, yet modern glamour.

Platinum is Smooth and Modern

Platinum is chosen as the precious metal of choice for the modern, sleek look that many designers are creating, since Platinum's high density and purity allows them to achieve long and simple lines.  Platinum and diamond engagement rings by Michael Bondanza, have sleek designs, and Platinum rings at Coge, whose split shoulder settings are perfect for the wedding bands to rest inside for a clean look. The smooth Platinum "Janus" bangle bracelet by German design house Henrich & Denzel, has a mechanism that allows it to be turned 360 degrees to wear closed, or open, with one end revealing diamonds.  Long and thin Platinum and diamonds earrings by Etienne Perret create a line of luxury down the woman's neck.

Platinum, The Masculine Metal

The Platinum jewelry worn by worldwide celebrity trendsetters like Jamie Fox and David Beckham, have influenced many jewelry designers to launch men's lines to a mainstream audience.  "Men prefer Platinum jewelry, because of its heft and durability, making it suitable for any lifestyle", said fashion and jewelry expert Michael O'Connor, PGI-USA's Senior Vice President.  Platinum watches continue to be the most coveted jewelry item for men, such as Chris Aire's "Air Traveler" Platinum and diamond encrusted watch.  Whitney Boin revealed his new men's jewelry line, "Route 66"; where Platinum mixes with rubber to create unique bracelets and necklaces.  A Platinum, titanium, and yellow diamond ring by Alan Friedman brings style to any event.  Platinum cufflinks are also a desired trend for men this year, like the Platinum "Galaxy Quartz" cufflinks by Marc Schneider, that have a unique swirling shape.

Platinum is prized for its Pure, Rare and Eternal qualities:

PURE:  Platinum's purity not only means that it is hypoallergenic and perfect for sensitive skin, but its natural white lustre allows the true radiance of a diamond or gemstone to shine.

RARE:  Platinum is 30 times rarer than gold.

ETERNAL:  Platinum will hold a diamond or gemstone securely, now and for always.
