Weddings to boost platinum sales
2/27/2008

Platinum jewelry is becoming increasingly popular among couples getting married in China, it has been reported.

According to the Shanghai Daily, platinum sales are likely to be supported by the number of people choosing the metal for their wedding rings.

Platinum Guild International said that platinum is proving particularly popular among young Chinese people.

Consultancy firm Johnson Matthey told the newspaper that demand for platinum in China is expected to have grown by 20,000 ounces in 2007 to 780,000 ounces.

In related news, DNA Money recently claimed that platinum is also growing in popularity in India, Sify.com reports.

The news provider said that platinum is a "reflection of inner beauty, strength and style", whether used for wedding bands, cufflinks or necklaces.

Queenie Dhody, former Miss India, said that diamonds "look better" when set in platinum and the metal is "one step ahead of gold" when it comes to jewelry designs.
