Basta brooches bring GIA to life
10/22/2007
A collection of ten brooches by jeweler to the stars Ricardo Basta is on display at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) museum in Carlsbad, California.

The lauded designer, who works in a variety of precious stones and metals, including glimmering platinum, has seen his fabulous designs gracing the red carpet and worn by some of the biggest names in Hollywood.

Shown as part of the GIA's 17th annual careers fair and open house, his stunning wares will be stay on display until March next year. Prices for his work span from $6,000 through to $250,000.

One of the pieces is a superb brooch of a panda crafted from black and white diamonds with a platinum bamboo shoot with jade carved into leaves.

Mr Basta told Signonsandiego.com: "I always say a piece of jewelry is never finished until you actually see it. I don't know if it has to do with seeing it on TV, or the glitz and glamour of seeing celebrities wearing it, but it's very exciting and I look forward to seeing it at every event."
