Two unique lady's platinum rings have sold for large sums at an auction in Rockland, Maine.
One of the rings, a beautiful platinum band set with octagonal-cut 1.26-carat diamonds and a 6.03-carat natural sapphire, sold for a staggering $15,525, which came well within its estimate. While the other, a stunning 4.05 carat alexandrite-centred diamond and platinum lady's ring, attracted a high bid of $14,950.
The 'Spectatular Maine Auction', held at James D. Julia auctioneers at the Samoset Resort, ran over three days from August 28th to 30th.
It featured 2000 lots in total which sold for an incredible $4.5 million. This was a record for the auction, in its 20th year.
Other jewelry on sale included an enormous 4.3 carat solitaire diamond gentleman's ring, hammered down at $28,750, outdoing its original estimate of $16,000-$20,000.
At the end of last month a one-off platinum watch sold for £91,455 ($186,266) at a charity auction in Monaco. The event was attended by more than 300 people, including celebrity designer Philippe Starck and Brazilian F1 Ferrari driver, Felipe Massa.
