Spectacular Platinum Watches Sold In The UK
8/10/2007

Platinum and diamond watches of the very highest order will be sold in London at the beginning of September.

The Knightsbridge auction includes three platinum watches in total and all are expected to attract a considerable amount of interest from the general public.

Lot No. 62 is a lady's platinum and diamond-set cocktail watch from the 1940s, which is likely to sell for around $1,000. The platinum watch, produced in Switzerland, has a 15-jewel manual wind movement and a silvered dial with black Arabic numerals.

The Bonhams auction includes another platinum and diamond-set cocktail watch, which auctioneers estimate will sell for $800. Also from Switzerland, Lot No. 69 has blued steel hands and a diamond-set case and lugs. It is more delicate than Lot No. 62 but pales in comparison to the final platinum watch on offer.

Rolex is almost unparalleled in its reputation for producing platinum timepieces and this platinum and diamond-set cocktail watch is truly breathtaking.

Manufactured in the 1940s, Lot No. 63 has a 17-jewel manual wind movement and a diamond-set circular case with a snap on the back. It also boasts diamond-set lugs with a fitted black cord.

Auctioneers believe it will sell for around $3,000, reflecting both the quality of the platinum craftsmanship and the name of the manufacturer.

In recent months, Rolex has handed out a number of steel and platinum Yacht-Master timepieces to the winners of various yachting competitions around the world.
